Principal Quality Officer (Defence Systems)

Job Description

About the Role


Reporting to the HSEQ Manager, this role focuses on quality assurance within our manufacturing processes, ensuring compliance with ISO 9001 and driving continual improvement across the organisation. You will play a key role in managing Supplier Quality, Production Quality, and the internal audit process, as well as assisting with external audits. Additionally, you will coordinate the MRB process with the finance team and maintain accurate quality documentation, including customer incident logs and warranty data.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and perform receiving inspections of incoming mechanical and electrical parts to verify design intent compliance.
  • Supervise and manage the daily functions of the quality officers, ensuring their work quality and efficiency.
  • Prioritise inspection workloads in line with project and production requirements.
  • Generate and present team output reports, using data gathered from the ERP system.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments to address and resolve inspection-related issues.
  • Liaise with stakeholders to expedite the completion of First Article Inspection (FAI) parts.
  • Participate in Material Review Board (MRB) activities, providing insights on non-conforming parts.
  • Establish quality management processes to ensure ISO 9001 compliance and customer satisfaction.
  • Help develop and maintain the company’s quality standards and procedures to meet customer needs, including feedback and return processing.
  • Work with the Supply Chain team to define quality requirements for external suppliers, ensuring materials meet AS9100 standards.
  • Plan, conduct, and manage risk-based internal audits to ensure ISO 9001 compliance.
  • Support external audits and lead the resolution of corrective actions for non-conformances.
  • Conduct final inspections of sub-systems and complete systems, ensuring timely documentation of Certificates of Conformance.

Qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering (preferred).

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring tools (e.g., Vernier calipers, micrometers, height gauges).
  • Good understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) systems (preferred).
  • Experience with CMM equipment is advantageous.
