Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Specific Functions & Tasks 

•    Provide leadership and management of the Project Engineering team
•    Ensure that the engineering department achieves the technical outcomes required on approved engineering projects
•    Establish, manage and maintain systems to support the planning of and resource allocation to, approved technical projects
•    For all approved engineering projects, ensure Project Engineers are allocated, plans developed and agreed, and progress is monitored and remediated where necessary
•    Present and participate in engineering project internal and external status reviews
•    Manage certain critical and complex engineering projects as required
•    Other duties as required

Relationship and Engagement 

•    Ensure Project Engineering team maintain close engagement with their Project Management counterparts
•    Ensure Project Engineering team maintain close engagement with Engineering team leads to facilitate planning, estimating and statusing of tasks
•    Maintain alignment with Project Management Office regarding selection and application of tools and techniques for planning

People and skills 

•    Set expectations for, and develop/evaluate performance of, Project Engineering Team
•    Ensure that team operates efficiently and effectively through clear guidance and follow up
•    Promote behaviours aligned to matrix management methods and eliminate team silos
 

Desired Skills and Experience

Experience

•    10 years or more experience practicing in a Senior Engineering position.
•    Knowledge and understanding of the Product Life Cycle
•    Experience and track record in management of engineers in multi-disciplinary teams.
•    Experience of the Australian Defence technical regulation frameworks and standards 
•    Proven experience in the project/program execution within the ASDEFCON framework.
